Year 1 Forest School - World Book Day Special!

Forest School in our Curriculum

Year 1 took their learning outside for a special Forest School session tied to World Book Day. Sitting around the fire circle, we shared a story, letting nature set the scene and spark our imaginations. The fresh air, sounds and textures around us helped bring the story to life, making it even more engaging.

Afterwards, the pupils got creative, making their own story sticks using twigs, leaves and stones to represent different characters and events. This hands-on activity helped them sequence ideas and build their storytelling skills in a fun, meaningful way.

But it wasn’t just about stories—maths came into play too! By choosing different objects to represent parts of their tales, the pupils explored early ideas about symbols and data, much like pictograms and bar charts. Their story sticks became a way of organising and making sense of information, blending storytelling with problem-solving and creative thinking. It was a fantastic example of how learning in nature can bring different subjects together in an exciting and memorable way!
